This animation was created for the Cartoon Challenge at the Kalamazoo Animation Festival International. Ten five-person teams representing Universities and art schools from The U.S. and Canada competed in the competition. The assignment was to create a 30 second public service announcement on the topic of social justice. The PSA was also to include the quote from Abraham Lincoln "With malice toward none, with charity for all". The topic was assigned at 9:00am Monday morning, and by 5:00pm Thursday the teams' animations were completed. Our team, Hogan's Zeros from Grand Valley State University, worked mostly in Macromedia Flash using Wacom tablets to simulate traditional cel animation. Garage Band was used by Robin Reyes to create the music and other sound effects for the animation. We used Final Cut Pro for editing.

The experience of the Cartoon Challenge improved my skills of collaboration. We had a great team and advised each other on virtually all aspects of the production. I feel creating a PSA on a subject chosen by an outside party will help me in future situations working with a client. The strict deadline and production time frame of four days have improved my ability to manage my time so that I can create quality animations quickly and under pressure.
